The national initiative of Connecting to Collections: A Call to Action is grounded in the results of the 2005 landmark study "A Public Trust at Risk: the Heritage Health Index Report on the State of America's Collections". In 2009, the New Hampshire State Library was awarded a Connecting to Collections statewide planning grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to undertake a collections survey of the state's cultural collections to answer the Call to Action.
The project was developed by the State Library in partnership with the NH Division of Archives, the NH Historic Preservation Office, the NH State Council on the Arts and the NH Historical Society.
The NH Connecting to Collections project identifies important collections and portrays their real value when viewed together as a statewide whole. As a result public awareness has been raised for collecting, preserving and sharing information about the life and culture of New Hampshire.
Thanks are due, first and foremost, to the staff and volunteers at each institution who participate in this connecting collections initiative.
