Muster Field Farm Museum Matthew Harvey Homestead
Collection Description:
18th Century Historic Homestead , listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Farm Buildings from farms located in Merrimack County, moved to Muster Field Farm in North Sutton, NH. Three large barns, two blacksmith shops (with ox slings), horse shed, ice house, three corn cribs, two octagonal buildings. Farm equipment: horse plows, winnowers, threshing machine, snow rollers. Hand tools used in agriculture: saws, axes, froes, blacksmith tools, flail, etc. Vehicles associated with agricultural use: oxcarts, delivery wagons, buggies. Harvey Homestead Papers: Collection of articles and letters written by family pertaining to farm and political life of Matthew Harvey (1781-1866), former Governor of NH, and Jonathan Harvey (1780-1859). Both were US Representatives and NH Congressmen of North Sutton, NH. Homestead and buildings are located on 250 acres of vegetable and flower gardens, orchards, and conserved woodland overseen by the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. From late 1700s to 1851, musters were held on this scenic tableland for citizen-soldiers from Sutton and surrounding towns.
