Records of the Manchester Police Department
Collection Description:
The records of the Manchester Police Department cover the early 19th century to the mid-twentieth century activities of police officers and the police court. They reflect the changes and the growth of a city which had its beginnings in 1846 with a population of 10,125 to once which experienced tremendous expansion through the influx of individuals from all over New England, Canada and Europe seeking work in the mills and small factories along the Merrimack River. The earliest volumes of Police/Muncipal Court records for Civil and Criminal Cases were restored through a grant provided by the New Hampshire State Library\'s Conservation License Plate Program.
